Legislative Director

Lauren E. Watts

Lauren Watts is the Legislative Director at WSC who specializes in health policy, homelessness policy, and grants and legislation research. Lauren is skilled in community organizing, grassroots political action, research and issue-based advocacy and brings to the firm a breadth of knowledge on healthcare policy, and Latin American political development. She works with an array of clients, assisting them in securing federal funding through the discretionary grants process and conducting research for them on a wide range of policy-related issues. Lauren also maintains close contacts with personnel at many federal agencies, on the hill, and in the White House.

Ms. Watts joins us from President Obama's Campaign for Change in Montana where she worked as the Deputy Field Director. In this position, she was responsible for hiring and training forty field organizers for statewide deployment, drafting and overseeing the execution of statewide plans for voter contact, youth vote, and voter registration, and directly managing field operations in the Helena area.

Previously, Lauren worked on President Obama's primary campaign in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Montana. In these three diverse states, she served as the primary liaison between the campaign and the staff, volunteers and voters in her regions. Lauren also worked directly with state officials to organize and execute petition drives, voter registration drives and early vote programs in traditionally low-performing democratic base areas.

Lauren graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations and Latin American Studies. As an undergraduate, she spent semesters abroad in Geneva, Switzerland and Mérida, Venezuela and is proficient in Spanish.
